What is a Master Class?

A master class is an advanced class given to students of a particular discipline by an expert of that discipline of the arts.  In a master class, all students and often spectators, watch and listen as the master takes one student at a time and works with that individual on their work/performance.  The student is exposed to comments, suggestions, and often anecdotes about the work or style with the requirement of improving the work/performance upon hearing the comments.  A demonstration from the master may be part of the critique and teaching.  Along with competitions, examinations and practice aspiring musicians, and their teachers, typically consider master classes to be one of the most effective means of development.

Master classes are open for audience, non-participation attendance as seating is available.
